I drew my profile pic and banner. The gameplay in the banner is from dragon quest 1 for game boy that I recorded myself.

can someone tell me something positive/hopeful about mathematics and computer electronics before I freak out about the pre-college algebra math class I'm currently struggling in

I am nearly 30 years old and have a C in a pre-college algebra class and I want to pursue a PhD related to computer engineering I'm freaking out

I'm nearly 30 years old and this is my second semester of college I'm freaking out

I understand the stress but remember: Cs get Degrees.

While initially it all seems really arbitrary, ultimately algebra is just arithmetic with grammar. "Do this first, then this, then this, and it ends up like this". The actual numbers are secondary concerns to learning the rules. It's the structure of a language. I've watched you picking up Japanese at a ludicrous pace; you can handle this.

If you're already playing with code, the structure of code can be a lot like algebra - in fact, they both have functions, where you plug values into variables to get results. Just focus on remembering the order in which you do things and break everything down into small steps as you work on fluency. You've got this!

The best thing btw is that it's a LOCK that your school offers free tutoring because it's in their best interest that you succeed and keep coming back semester after semester. You should check it out ASAP.

One of my friends, who has a doctorate and studies computational quantum physics, graduated from undergrad with a 2.4 GPA after seven years. Caring about the topic and working diligently towards a goal matter more than any letter grade.

There is nothing to be ashamed of.
