I’m Ruby。 I’m roughly 20 apples tall

I drew my profile pic and banner. The gameplay in the banner is from dragon quest 1 for game boy that I recorded myself.

So I made the Indie Tsushin year 1 anniversary cover and it’s one of my favorite drawings I’ve ever done.

This drawing was incredibly challenging in a lot of regards because I was doing a few things I hadn’t done before like stylize katakana, paint kanji with a brush, and draw a big oni guy.

Pictured above is the final piece, some ink lettering outtakes (there were a ton of those, much more than pictured), the actual ink work, and the katakana I ended up using for the final product.

I always do all my sketches digitally to save on paper and then print out a final sketch to ink. I usually print them on the back and use a light board but my light board cable famously disappeared during that time so I had to make do. Some may ask “why not just go all digital Ruby?” If you have seen my digital line work or were to, you’d know it looks like hot flaming diarrhea garbage. Digital “inking” is a skill of its own that I refuse to learn because it looks like a hot diarrhea dump when I do it.

Also I used my own face as reference for this drawing and you will never see those photos because I look like a buffoon. (Willing to release them for $10,000 to me and $20,000 for Renkon and Daikon, email me!)

I’m really thankful for Renkon and Daikon letting me make this cool cover for them and for the portable AC purchase it helped fund. Staying cool this summer thanks to this drawing and Nice Gear Games’ generosity.

Indie Tsushin offers a lot of fun things to read about a plethora of indie games developed in Japan and I hope you’ll check out their past, current, and future articles. You should also play the games of course. Play the games. The whole point is for you to read about them and then play them. If you don’t play the games pot-chan will cry.

Edit: renkon suggested I add about my commissions to this post. However, I do not do commissions anymore because I don't have enough time with school. But, if you'd like to help out my family with a donation (we're broke rn) here's my payment info

My wife needs dental work done and we currently do not have health insurance (yay America), also ever since getting married we lost some benefits like foodstamps which left a permanent $300 hole in our grocery budget. Thank you.
