So I came up with fuheji-san in Japanese class after my professor taught us へのへのもへじ (google this) and wanted to see what faces I could make with other hiragana and that’s when I came up with ふへじ. As for why I specifically chose that for the game? I honestly couldn’t tell ya. It just felt like the right thing to do. The fuheji-san sprite has gone through a couple of variations so I’ll probably post those later. But, attached to this post is an example of the actual characters.
I’m making the game’s story in Japanese and doing all the development logs in Japanese, so I guess it’s fitting. I love STG and want to engage with the culture rather than just ripping from it. Also Japanese STG players are some of the only people who actually speedrun STG so I’m hoping people will speedrun my game. There’s also something I’m keeping secret about the game that I hope will get a laugh from Japanese players.
