I’m giving up on this the combat system is garbage, does phantasy star 3 or 4 have a better combat system and maybe not the ugliest overworld sprites I’ve ever seen

The art in this game is better, it’s very beautiful actually, and I’m intrigued by the world here, I think I’ll push through this even if the combat system still sucks

Phantasy Star II is a game that hates the fucking player so bad, it is a mean, unfriendly, unwelcoming game. But it does have Clone Lab Grandma, so it gets points for that.

Phantasy Star IV is my favorite game though. All time fave. All systems all genres all time fave. They took the potential of psii and refined it, softened it, polished it into a beautiful gem, full of light and kindness. Psiv welcomes you in. It invites you to be friends. It's a good game. I replay it every few years.

Set a macro where your characters cast 'wat' 'tsu' and 'foi' in that order and you basically won't need any other moves for the first 15-20% of the game. It's STRONG. As a backup foi or wat + zan is strong as hell. If you don't have zan substitute hewn.

All the best items are in the optional dungeons.
