auto-tune, or more accurately, pitch correction!
I use this extensively in my music, it's part of my sound, I think it's a very beautiful invention
I grew up very well aware of it and the controversy around it, but I was absolutely obsessed with its use on Discovery for Romanthony's singing and that's stuck with me since, I don't really see it as a tool for its intended use of making my singing better, but as a new realm of expression, a digital voice, I have a bunch of different voices I can utilize through various signal chains and manual note editing and it's fun, it's the most intensive part of my process, and I love it!
and I just wanna say I'm trying out the real "auto-tune" right now, you know, from the inventor, antares, and this shit is mid! I don't think I'm going to keep using it, I'm glad I just got a trial license, it's the worst sounding pitch correction processor I've come across which is sad because they invented the shit, I thought it would be spectacular, but no, the formant editing sucks, I like to transpose my voice up an octave most days because it gives me a lot more room to add different instruments and such as my voice is naturally quite deep and I work a lot in that area instrument wise, and bro using the built in transpose and trying to get something even close to sounding good with the formant knob was just not possible, shit sounds hideous, they fucked up, I really don't see why anyone would use this software with the price it's at when there's so much out there for cheaper that produces much arguably more beautiful sounding results when your goal is a digital voice, I'm sure it's great for some light fucking correction on a taylor swift record but if you want to use pitch correction as a genuine tool to create new sounds and things outside of human capability it sucks! it does a bad job! boo!
