My 32 minute rambly story retrospective for Freedom Planet, the start of making good on the threat I keep making to my twitch chat. Thanks for egging me on, it's been nice to do video editing again!

I talk about video games, scifi, old anime, and robots.
Asks and comments welcome!

This game definitely sounds like one of those things that are just so close to being wholly incredible that the flaws feel bigger than they actually are. Unfortunately as an outsider to the genre I don't have a lot of really insightful commentary to return, but this was a nice overview!
Tbf it's mostly just me. I'm doing this to sate an obsession. But yeah glad you liked it yo!
Loved the video!
While I have problems with Freedom Planet 1's tone (and I've got some thoughts on its sequel, too) I do still like it quite a bit. There's a charming earnestness in big Sonic/furry/webcomicky fan projects, where even when they massively overreach I still respect them for going for it.
I thought the "violent assaults against a teenage protagonist" bits of Freedom Planet came close to being offensive, but I also thought it was gutsy. It's rare for me to feel conflicted about a video game story, because — for better or worse — most video game stories aren't daring enough for that to come up.
I'd be eager to hear your thoughts about FP2 should you decide to do a follow up. IMO it mostly handled its drama quite a bit better (thankfully, given what it chose for its drama...) but it could have really used a stage or two more worth of character conversation to really come together.
I also thought the difficulty between characters was a little screwy (but that's something else).
