The broad convention as I understand it is to un-italicize something that would be italicized if it is contained within something that is already italicized.

the final line is so unusually slanted that it's subject to a slight optical illusion, and looks vaguely like it's not horizontal
there's really something about cohost that brings together people who have this idea (the first time, the second time). i still believe in it. italics should do that.
