✨ Regular reminder that if you don't care what happens to a kink community just because it doesn't happen to be one you share? You're next.

I see this attitude of 'well, it doesn't matter because they haven't screwed up my scene yet' so often and, folks... that is literally how 'divide and conquer' works. Right-wing scaremongering relies on your disgust. It relies on your indifference to the plight of people you are told to consider disgusting. But disgust is a moving target. It is a constantly moving target, in fact, because to keep the engine turning over, conservatism always needs new enemies.

Recently, it's been the ABDL community in the targeting sights. But not that long ago, it was furries in general until they realized it was too big a pool to stoke the revulsion they wanted. Remember the 'litterboxes in schools' hoax? They already tried this. And before furries, it was just queer culture, period. Every time it fails to work, they go more and more granular in the target of their loathing. And there's no real limit on it, either, no tactics they won't stoop to, because as long as they can count on your apathy, it's gonna work.

How long until Patreon bans macro fetish art because it depicts 'property damage'? How long until they ban fat fetish art because it depicts 'unhealthy practices'? How long until they ban inflation fetish art because, I don't know, it depicts 'improper use of power tools' or whatever stupid reason they'll invent? Because believe me, they can always invent a new reason. They can always tell new lies. But the people you don't stand up for today, the people who get excluded and marginalized because of your indifference? They won't be there to help when it happens to you.

And you're next.

it is depressing to examine what cultural works were chosen to be reinforced by society from generation to generation, and then seeing "First they came" does not seem to be one of them
... or really, anything that encourages one to think critically

One of the most successful things the right's done in the last 30 or so years has been their attack against pornography/expressions of sexuality, and it takes so many damn forms, from convincing payment processors to de facto ban adult things to outright fascist bullshit like this. And 100%, when the first target's dead there'll always be a new one, because fascism requires an external enemy/other by design.
