additionally, being a doll is more useful for sadism than one might expect. one can adopt a position of superiority based on one's elegance, expensiveness, fautless behaviour, etc. simultaneously, one may heighten the subject's ignominity by rubbing their face in the fact that the creature lording it over them is not even a person; what could be lower than a servant's slave, a plaything's plaything?

I don't usually push this angle overtly on my artificial people, but it's there as subtext: "I was intended to be a magical servant, but because of my intrinsic awesomeness I'm now pretty much indistinguishable from a god." (grins) "Freshen your drink?"
