Despite officially honoring their call defend their ally the Republic of Genoa did not supply any soldiers to the Milanese defence thought the first year of the war. However once it was clear that thr Kindom of Milan was at risk of being completely annexed the King was deaperate enough get Genoese aid.
The Milanese diplomats snuck behind the Venizian lines snd into neutral Parma then Genoa. The diplomats needed to perduade its neighboring city-states, the Kingdom of Modena and the Kingdom of Parma to allow the Genoese armies access across their countries and into Milan and Venice.
The two kings had wsnted to remain neutral in the dispute but, and had the agents of the Genoese merchant Republic had attempted to secure military access rights, it wasnt until the King of Milan came into contact that a deal could be struck.
The Kingdom of Parma agreed to allow access begining jn March and the Kingdom of Modena would allow access in June.
In April 1937 23000 well trained and fresh soldiers swept into Milan and forced out all of Venice's forces back into the Venetian countryside.
In May 1937 the Military High Gen Monteverdi was wounded while on route to Trent, when a musket malfuntioned and shot a bullet into his left thigh.
He was put on medical leave as High command scrammbled to find a replacement.
They chose Gioralamo Albricci, a prodigious young commander of 3rd Trent Artillery, who had shown great leadership when deployed as part of the Provsional army. He had been instrumental in organizing the arrangement of the cannons along the hillside during the first battle of Brescia. More inportant to the High command he showed great loyalty when he convinced an entire division to break away from the rest of its army to stay and wait for orders in Verona.
His proved to be a very capable leader who was able to defeat the Genoese army in the Battle of Verona. Inflicting casualties of 20000. The Genoese presence now numbered only 2000 soldiers.
Unfortunately while the Venizian army dealt with Genoa Milan had recovered its losses and marched over two armies of 9000 and 16000 men across the mountains into Treviso and Belluno, a stones throw from the capital of the Serene Doge.
