EDIT: according to staff this will be addressed eventually

I got really frustrated today because I saw a post that clearly sparked a lot of discussion (about whether you should be able to like comments or not) and I wanted to see people's opinions on it

Wait, they're ALL private quote tweets?

I can confirm that this isn't deliberate, and in fact we have most of the code required to provide this written already; no solid specifics yet to announce about how it will look/what types of restrictions we're going to put on it though, if any (e.g. whether it'll require the OP to approve shares they'd like to highlight, whether the visibility will be restricted to a certain number of degrees of follows away, etc.)

From what I understand, avoiding having this feature is part of avoiding having too many vectors for harassment/dehumanisation. I know I've been guilty of going through notes on Tumblr to find people being wrong for fun, or that it's more tempting to jump onto someone with a pile of criticism if I can already see other people doing it too.

I think it's a valid design choice to make to not have these, but I agree that it does lead to some frustration and maybe means that posts have a shorter shelf life here than other places.
