you know how there's tech debt. we need a concept of rhetorical debt. rhetorical debt is when activists use a rhetorical strategy ("born this way" rhetoric re: queerness, for example) to achieve a short-term goal (gay marriage and its associated legal benefits) which ultimately causes unforeseen long-term problems (queer people get really into categorization and also astrology)
