An idea I had for a worldbuilding project long ago that sticks in my head a lot: shadowrun style Return of Magic but it turns out that nobody is actually human. Humans are just the form of the various creatures of the world are forced into when there is no magic. Everyone gets TF'ed to some manner of fantastical crrature, the most humanlike of which are some really Funky Elves. there are taurs, some people are just dragons

humanity is a lie sold by big ancient wizard spell to save money on having to produce different types of ergonomic clothing and furniture (not actually but lmao)

This just has me imagining that the reality of the scenario in which you end up with a sizable contingent of... reverse-therians, I guess? Like, the normies and such who still ID strongly as human after changing, followed by future generations who only know stories of humans in the abstract and vibe with them the same way we vibe with fantastical creatures in our reality. It'd be surreal as hell.

I mean, same, to an extent. But I just think about a lot about imperfect solutions because they interest me. A big "no choice, everyone gets TF'd" event is just guaranteed to hit some amount of people wrong. Even in the event of it drawing upon some "inner self," there's still a lot of dissonance to work through for those who, as far as they were conscious of, were perfectly happy as they were.
