At the request of my boyfriend I'm currently playing a modpack where create is basically the only non-vanilla automation and I've built so many contraptions. I've got valves you can turn and levers you can pull (but this lever and that lever should never be on at the same time, that would cause the system to flood with water) and messes of cogwheels big and small at all sorts of angles because I don't want to just use gearboxes even though it would definitely be easier. I refer to all of them as "the mechanism"and distinguish them by what they make, sometimes where they are. "The gravel mechanism." "The potion mechanism." "The bonemeal mechanism." "The washing machine." I have constructed more mechanisms than I have in all my thermal expansion/mekanism modpacks combined and I'm thriving.
YESSSS sure i couuuuld tuck away a pile of gearboxes and speed controllers in the walls OR i could have a beautiful mess that i can watch come alive at the flick of a lever. my mech crafter array has an access gantry in front that moves out of the way when it starts just for the fun of it. my base is Alive
