in reply to @Gyro's post:

...i'm pretty much the opposite, but with therian stuff.
"i don't really think i'm a therian, but i'm not against becoming one" were the words i think i've used before.

...also makes me think about the "I'm not owned! I'm not owned!!" post.

also see: the Saberspark effect where it's like "i'm not a furry, however i do basically everything a furry would normally do, but i pretend it's ironic since i can't accept myself as truly being one because of the stigma"

You ain't wrong. I think these days it's something you just gotta shrug off let said person figure things out themselves. When that person realizes that nobody whose opinions matter cares about such things they can free themselves of their self-imposed burden, whether that mean saying that they are in fact a furry, or just not constantly spending time engaging with anyone that tries to force the label on them, especially negatively.

I had the misfortune in the early 2000s of having that "I'm one of the good ones!" attitude and in retrospect all it meant was I spent a lot of time avoiding being seen with chill furries and instead being an asshole to them to earn the respect of shitty people who I should've dropped from my life way sooner.
