i really hope someone succeeds at chasing the retroarch devs out of the emulation scene for good. jeff gerstmann just talked about using it on his podcast recently and i'm sick of them still being relevant. they severely harassed several LGBT people, one of which famously committed suicide from a kiwifarms harrassment campaign that originated directly from their private IRC chatrooms. their behavior towards the developers whose emulators they fork is so toxic that it was the sole cause of several famous emudevs either quitting entirely or going on a years-long hiatus. yes, im well aware that it's the only way to get multiplatform versions of certain emulators. but if you support emulation then you should just use the standalone emulators on your PC and phone instead. the retroarch developers do not deserve your support. the project is rotten to the core in ways that can't be fixed by just forking the source code. emulator frontends are simple to set up if you know basic tech stuff. you well and truly do not need retroarch.

and honestly we shouldn't care. the people who want to emulate on ios or whatever can cry about it and wait for a better solution
yeah that's the point im making. the amount of people who don't care about this stuff because "it's the easiest way for me" just baffles me. there were some normies who found out about everything when the duckstation dev took a hiatus because of them but everyone just. forgot right after
btw don't confront the devs directly on this, squarepusher especially. they're all manipulative snakes who will either deny their involvement or browbeat you into dropping the convo (and if you dabble in anything remotely adjacent to emudev, try to kiss up to you so you'll get on their side). just looking up retroarch on r/emulation gives you enough proof because squarepusher would constantly start shit there too. he also tried to claim they had nothing to do with the kiwifarms thread that killed Near even though half the shit KF claimed about them came straight from squarepusher's own IRC comments (alongside anonymous 4chan comments that are strikingly similar to his writing style).
also, while most of the bad behavior mentioned in this post is from squarepusher, the other developers publicly stated that they refuse to take action against him because he's too "important" to RA's development, so I consider them all collectively accountable for his actions.
Genuine question: what other emulators should I use if I want to use runahead?
It was the only thing that had me interested in Retroarch for awhile (before finding out the devs are pieces of shit)
