i don't understand how this is a position you can hold if you've ever read one book or have been in one high school classroom.

i at least understand the fascists who hate All Quiet On The Western Front, because they think all war, any war, is good and proper, and balk at the suggestion that actually fighting those wars was a miserable experience for most of those fighting it.

I don't understand how one could even look at the basic facts of the war's causes and outcomes and argue that any of the motivations from the leadership of all sides had even the faintest touch of nobility to them. i thought that the tragedy of the situation was that all those young men died for nothing.
