the fact that individually changing your lifestyle has a less than negligible effect on climate change does not mean that addressing climate change is possible without changing people's lifestyles. this is a very core part of the problem. a lot of liberal democracies have come to derive a large portion of their legitimacy from the consumer products available to their populations and the relatively affordable prices for these consumer goods. telling people that they can't have their treats is very often politically suicidal
