some of the people bristling at the thought of having to reckon, to any minute degree, with the basic concept of Orientalism are very clearly only concerned about the burden that might be placed on them to alter their Product, and I wonder if those people understand how obvious that is to lookers-on

I genuinely, truly hate how this has happened so many times here, to so many different groups. Cohost, culturally, has a problem with racism that it feels like it is not even remotely interested in addressing

a lot of the flareups I've seen have been intertwined with offsite community drama, so I could see why one might be at least a little inclined to chalk them down to social media tribalism or whatever, but idk how many people have to get steamrolled—up to and including people who are clearly not uninterested in petty squabbling, or trying to undermine the stability of this community, and whose prior contributions had been endorsed by the people now taking shots at them—before we accept that these repeated demonstrations of reactive fragility are not only harmful and hypocritical and embarrassing but fucking boring

So I'm not the only one who feels uncomfortable with how people on here adapt Japanese cyberpunk aesthetics and treat them as their own culture

Or how, white sapphics on social med in general will co-opt sapphic Japanese-made fanart, slap on Impact-font meme captions, and call it their "oc" or otherwise non-acknowledge and non-credit the original artist, all while writing off anyone who dislikes these memes as homophobic
