i am listening attentively but my casual research turned up mostly 'you can do it with javascript (i've used a library to do this before but i didn't think you could use arbitrary javascript in chosts), with css keyframes (which is promising but i don't know how to do this inline), or by using file types that aren't supported anymore in most major browsers'
just tried it with the keyframe hack i discovered but sadly the cursor doesn't auto-update, so it does work while you move your cursor but not if you aren't doing anything:
