Walking around ff14 with my Scholar fariy and my little brickman from the Dragon Quest X crossover event reminds me of the Paladin questline in DQ IX. The two classes have an interesting overlap, in their fairy companions, with the exception that the fairy in DQIX (a lost soul, iirc, actually) get to, like, be a character, they get to have dialogue at all. I get that the game goes out of its way to not say anything about a lot of stuff so as to encourage roleplaying and writing your own lore for your character (the devs have all but stated that romance is never going to be involved in a major story arc, because people like shipping their wols with the cast so much), but also, like... anything beyond the unlock quest for the job would have been nice. Makes me want to just steal the personality of either of DQIX's companion fairies as Pennery's healbuddy (Stella, the one that's unrelated to the Paladin questline and joins early in the game, is hilarious. She a valley girl that throws out malapropisms like nobody's doing business. I made that up on the spot, most are better than that. I'm personally a big fan of "Time and tide wait for Norman, and I'm not Norman, so lets get moving!")
