Early concept art from Star Wars Rebels. I think it's interesting that Ezra and Chopper are essentially there from the beginning, and then the rest of the crew dials in. Some neat details:
- Kanan with a robot arm?
- The transposition of Sabine and Hera as "cool older lady/crew mom" and "spunky, mechanically minded teen".
- We know we want a big alien on the team, but what! Zeb's ultimate form is some unused McQuarrie concept art for Chewbacca, but it's cool to see an Ithorian and a Snivvian1 in the mix.
- I wonder if there's a little of that top concept Sabine that eventually worked its way down into Omega eventually. Hm.

A lot of the early vibe of Rebels is "this is the Star Wars we made when we played with our toys, so having Hammerhead and Snaggletooth in the lineup makes a kind of symmetric sense.
Here's some more early Hera. Its way not there yet, but I'd love to see them rescue this design for another character some day. I think it's hewing a little too close to young Ahsoka to be used by Lucasfilm Animation back in, what, 2014? But now, it'd be kind fresh. I like the way her short lekku are splitting the difference between Chibi-Usa pigtails and like, Pikachu ears. The mono-eye VOTOMs goggle is strong too.
Like let's just say it, this is a magical girl mechanic, and that's just an astoundingly strong concept.
