one thing i adore about pacific drive is that it trains you to get used to the weird shit as you interact with the world and the anomalies more
its actually less spooky than i thought - at first the anomalies are creepy but as you learn how they work it turns into almost a feeling of them being Very Weird Workplace Annoyances. "ah god dammit the exploding mannequins are on the road again i have to go around"
and whats really cool is this has a story parallel because you realize that's basically what it was like to live and work in the Zone at its height. this weird place where the weird shit is a day to day thing you just gotta deal with
the game takes advantage of the fact that the more you understand about the mechanics of the spooky thing the less scary it is, it encourages you to learn how the anomalies work and how to deal with them, and that fits thematically with the game's mechanics it rules
i finally upgraded the engine and tires oh god its gonna get zippy
