Just came across this screenshot of the Blockbuster Video website in 1997.

Look at this thing. It's so gleefully hideous. Can you imagine a website today being even one tenth as wild as this? And I mean ANY website, much less one for a publicly traded company!

When I say "the internet used to be fun," this is part of what I mean.

image maps are one of those things you forget about and then something like this reminds you they used to be the norm and it's like smacking your head against the top of a doorframe, but in a good way
