so i'm trying to resuscitate a "dead" 3d printer, a Lotmaxx Shark. Kind of a crowdfunded wunderkind jack of all trades master of none printer that, unfortunately, did not play well with an autoleveller, I'm told
essentially, they told me the thing decided to ignore all reason (and sensor readings) and crush its way down into the centre of the bed, permanently bending the hot plate.
Everything else still works, minus the autoleveller i guess. It's still attached, but seems to be permanently retracted. I could extract it from the housing, but that'd be an entire day of fiddling with tiny screws that could easily get lost so I think I'll just leave it in there and let it blink angrily at me. I can still manually level just fine...
... but that build plate.
I think a valid plan of action would be to somehow fill in the dent, though how I would do that I have no idea. It'd have to be a material that could resist repeated cycles of heating and cooling. My first instinct is to repurpose one of the silicone baking pads we have in our kitchen, but getting it to fill the dent perfectly kinda eludes me at the moment. The dent is so slight, I can't even make a guess as to what shape to cut the material to.
