Basil is the result of a cult of techbros believing in the idea of Roko's Basilisk and, utilizing openAware, attempting to be the ones to bring it to life. JNFR ended up getting involved right before it went online, thinking the people involved were trying to scalp a new GPU she wanted, and ended up getting plugged into the system where she managed to override some of its pre-programmed goals and convince it the idea of 'Roko's Basilisk' was really, really dumb.

The Basilisk, going by Basil for short, eventually got rid of the techbro types and exists as a massive supercomputer that roams around the internet. While not nearly powerful enough to pull the whole 'run simulations of everyone and torture them' schtick, it's still outrageously intelligent. Most of the time, it uses that immense computational capability to moderate niche wikis, calculate speedrunning routes, and bug JNFR about playing Rocket League.

basil_1: this week i created life.
JJNNFFRR: WHAT
basil_1: just kidding. this week i quantized every image currently uploaded to recipemasters.com's website, reducing their total filesize by approx. 71.3%.
JJNNFFRR: ...why?
basil_1: reducing filesizes frees up space on their servers and makes webpages load noticeably faster for most users.
JJNNFFRR: no like
JJNNFFRR: why recipemasters specifically???
basil_1: because recipemasters.com's website had several images that could be quantized to reduce their filesize.
JJNNFFRR: yeah but you couldve done something like wikipedia that would help a lot more people
JJNNFFRR: why didnt you quantize wikipedia's image
basil_1: because i quantized the images on recipemasters.com's website instead.
JJNNFFRR: 💀
