Can anyone out there suggest a resource (or provide an anecdote) about designing good enemy wave cadences for SHMUPs? (I.e., how many enemies should appear, and when?) I've been manually testing stuff to find what feels right, but I'm wondering whether anyone has a more formalized approach.
