Ever since I started playing Lajos Brons's epic sumo simulation game, Banzuke Shoushin, I've been eager to design a simulation game of my own. My friends and I have a Banzuke Shoushin session going that has lasted almost 30 in-game years, and shows few signs of slowing. It never stops being rewarding to draft a new rikishi (sumo wrestler), train them as best you can, and follow the ups and downs of their careers.

There's something deeply appealing about a game where you have no direct control, and only a semblance of input. The game becomes a random outcome generator around which narratives cohere. They don't necessarily become stale, because they're always producing surprising results. And, of course, there's always room for silly, counter-intuitive play, too.

I want to make something like Banzuke Shoushin, but I have no idea what I'd try to simulate. Maybe a game where you raise and race snails? Who knows...
