May be rambly bc I'm treating this as a place to dump thoughts.

There's a certain... magic that happens with an animated feature. I feel like... that magic is the artists' intentions. Like, what does he mean, when he says a Miyazaki movie? When I think of a Miyazaki movie, I think less about his story telling and more like... on the feel of the work through the environmental painting.

What really strikes me about Miyazaki movies is that there is care and thought being put into those background paintings. The environments feel almost like a character itself, something to fall in love with. I don't know man, I just get really big feelings when I see the hue of blue in the sky, or the rich greens in the forests, or crazy complicated details of Howl's room...

I don't... think you can recreate that magic in live action. I'm sorry, I too, love live action, but I just don't see it.

i have a lot of thoughts i can't articulate right now (i know because i tried) but i agree. there's something that the animation adds or allows that live action really can't mimic.
