Part of the writing I’d like to do involves me wanting to link what was going on in America (and the world, I guess. Maybe more geared towards Paris/France?) in the mid 1800s to the 1900’s. I don’t need anything fully detailed, but I want an understanding of culture, esp pop culture (esp cheap entertainment, theaters, vaudeville), art but also politics, events… etc.
The main subject I’m writing about (animation) was inspired by those sorts of things, so I want to be able to paint a picture about where America (and France.) were during the time.
I guess it’s obvious to find a “text book” reference, but I guess what books are good for learning about history? Hmm…
