I think it did come out pretty well. Reminds me of the backgrounds of a sci-fi game that used rotoscoping to animate the player character.
Another World maybe? First result on google anyway and I can kinda see the resemblance. I remember the first image in particular was very Hyper Light Drifter inspired though.
