I'm trying to collect buttons from a bunch of different cohost users to add to a huge button wall on my Neocities page. I figured if I was already collecting the buttons, I may as well make them public, so other folks could add them too.
I made a little google form (I know, I'm sorry) to allow folks to submit their buttons (I'm specifically looking for the 88 pixel wide by 31 pixels tall buttons.) and I was planning on having each button send to the respective owner's Neocities (or similar) page.

If you'd like in
Submission form is here
The resulting collection is here

I'm still tinkering with the one I'm making for myself so it's currently empty but I plan on submitting mine when I figure out how I want it to look. Thanks folks!

Oh no worries, I just mean with the overhaul thing I'm just working on making my site more usable on my end and I'm probably rewriting it to help with that. It just may be a bit, but I'll be sure to add it when I get there!

It should be up but GitHub Pages + Jekyll is being a pain in the ass and I'm getting super frustrated by it

basically sometimes the site build fails randomly and that happens once an hour when it refreshes the RSS feed so sometimes it's basically down for an hour at a time and I can't figure out the rhyme or reason except that Jekyll is fragile

yeah I suspect the problem is with the RSS feed fetcher which is particularly fragile and a big part of why I want to rebuild this in Flask or something else that I actually have a basic familiarity in.

That's fair, I'm still very novice to webdev stuff, so I'm not very familiar with different methods of doing things left. I have some novice knowledge in some basic HTML and even less in CSS and basically none in Javascript. I wish I could be more help on that front lmao.

That said, I did get the webring code on my home page, I haven't added it everywhere yet because I'm still setting up the reusable elements thing with CSS so I don't have to update my reused stuff on every page lmao. I will add it to every page when I have that set up.

There isn't really any reason to put the webring anywhere except on your homepage.

Jekyll (which the current webring uses) is a pretty simple static site generator which works fine for making static websites, but it's not really built for things that involve fetching remote data (such as RSS feeds) and also its data model is a bit limiting and weird.

It wouldn't take me very long to build this in Flask (a Python framework for dynamic websites, which is what I used for the Flickr Random Image Generator and is also the basis of Publ which runs a bunch of my websites) but I'm spread extremely thin right now so I'm trying to maximize my impact while minimizing my effort.

It didn't allow me to reply to your last post, but I mostly just plan on having a webring section on my sidebar that'll be on most pages of my website. Currently, I just have the code updated only on my home page because I plan on implementing it differently later on and didn't feel like copying it to every page yet, lmao. That said, no worries, I appreciate you making this webring! It's really cool and yours is the first one I joined!

I've submitted the root domain as @belarius using the form above, but if you'd be open to it, I would be thrilled if you also link to the dedicated subdomain

https://belarius.neocities.org/barleydog/

with the following button:

https://belarius.neocities.org/asset_archive/operations/BarleyDog8831.png

This is a direct continuation (and, given time, complete archival reconstruction) of all the @BarleyDog posts I made on cohost, so it's technically a different cohost handle, and I suspect Barley has some fans who have zero interest in the rest of my posting. :eggbug-wink:

No pressure at all, though, I appreciate the effort to collect as many as possible in one place. :eggbug:
