I gave my toddler a haircut. It looks awful. I hope I can fix it before Christmas photos immortalize this mistake and my child grows up asking, “Why did you give me that awful haircut?”

I am delighted to report that I saved my toddler’s hair (and his Christmas photos) from disaster.

We put him in a high chair, poured a little water on his tray and gave him a paintbrush, turned on the 1960’s Grinch cartoon, and then I—much more carefully this time—fixed his lop-sided mushroom into a mohawk with shaven sides.

Our sweet boy is tuckered out from all the holiday fun, so we cancelled our plans and stayed in to rest. We caught both of our cats napping with him on the baby monitor. 🥺

My 1.5-year-old baby is becoming a toddler. I’d always imagined that I’d struggle with the toddler years, but so far, it’s been delightful. 💕

The part that I least expected was my patience for my baby’s emerging tantrums.

I’m learning that toddlers are little people with big feelings. When they’re happy, their laughter is infectious. When they’re sad, they melt onto the floor, absolutely devastated.

Tantrums happen when they can’t make sense of their experiences and their big feelings are too much to process.

My child has preferences and opinions. I’m excited to get to know him!
