for a long time I was getting my estrogen from Empower Pharmacy, a mail-order compounding pharmacy. their estradiol cypionate formulation is 10mg/ml, as opposed to Pfizer's 5mg/ml (the only national brand). this meant smaller injections, and more injections per vial... and the vials were cheaper without insurance than Pfizer's with... and because insurance didn't have to approve it, my prescription called for two vials per order which meant I didn't have to do any dose counting or how-much-is-left estimation to know when it was time for a refill: it was simply "when I'm down to one vial." (oh, and they didn't have over a year of "shortages" like Pfizer did. that's how I found them to begin with.)
near the end of last year, when I called in for a refill I was told that they'd put a freeze on shipments out of state while performing a "regulatory compliance review." this went on until I wound up needing a stopgap prescription I could fill locally. then it became permanent. now I get one vial of Pfizer per refill, which lasts half as long, and since medicaid won't let me refill "before it's due" I have to keep careful track of how much is left vs. when a refill is allowed (with no help from my medical provider, a clinic whose only online presence is a website literally built in the 90s). and this is the second time in six months I've messed up and not had as much left as I thought, so I guess my cycle is jumping forward a week (glad this happened on the down-cycle at least).
anyway, Empower Pharmacy is located in Texas so we all know what happened. super fun being a political football for a state I don't even share a border with.
