i just figured out how you do that. the "black" outline of the speech bubble is just a really dark gray. right? that's how it inverts so gracefully.
I actually did this one a little differently than I've done in the past. I've usually used a black outline with a white fill, but I've decided that I'd like to avoid creating a "double outline" in one of the modes where possible going forward. So for this one, the original "stroke" of the speech bubble shape is the color of the sky (you can just see it on the right), and the fill is black. I then rasterized the shape, selected the black interior, shrank the area by a couple pixels, smoothed the selection area, and manually re-selected to top bit to make sure it went to the margin. I then chopped out the selected area from both layers, flattened the image, and saved as a PNG.
