It's a very *distinctive* blog

queer chemist with a lot of hobbies

It won't work on my current server, so now I'm moving servers, because I hated the constraints on that one anyway, and this one is actually cheaper. But like. Now I have to learn all the ins and outs of the server instead of using cPanel, because I don't want to buy a cPanel license (expensive and also, I didn't like a lot of the constraints in cPanel either).

This is a challenge. Luckily, I paid for the old server in advance so my website isn't going anywhere, it's just not going to get updated while I work on this. Still: immense learning curve, and really annoyed that half the stuff I find assumes I have knowledge of other stuff, but doesn't define what I should already know before I start the tutorial.

Can tutorials be like recipes?

For this tutorial, you will need:
  • Experience with root access
  • Node.js installed on your server
  • Server file structure knowledge
  • Git installed on your server
  • Experience using Node.js and Git in the command terminal.

All I can think of is this XKCD: The one about how experts always overestimate the average person's understanding of their field
