in high school we had to memorize it for extra credit at one point, just like how in middle school we had to do the same for "we didn't start the fire", so it's partially burned in here. even though, by the time we were in high school, this was 15-20 years out of date (was Ukraine even in this?)
Oh wow! The thing I memorized in high school (very much not for credit!) was George Carlin's list of 123 "dangerous, depressing, life-threatening things that life is really all about." ("Things you have not been thinking about, but which will be waiting for you once you leave the theater, or turn off your radio or television set.") I was semi-known for being able to recite the whole thing! People asked me to do it! (You have to remember I went to a residential nerd high school so, you know... Like, we had a whole nerd-jock-arts sort of spectrum but even the jocks were nerds. I know we now think of residential gifted nerd high school as "a thing" but seriously, I had friends, I dated, I had, you know, erotic experiences with women I dated, it honestly was a good experience!) (Also a few items on the list feel like problematic humor now but in the late 80 you know...)
