I used to know a queer + trans multiracial couple who'd been together for years and referred to each other as husband and wife, but couldn't get married because they wouldn't be able to afford their meds and DME.
So we have LGBT marriage equality... but not for them. We have racial marriage equality... but not for them. So it's not really equal, is it.
I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that many of their relationship problems would have been solved, directly or indirectly, if they just had more money.
I hope they're doing okay.
