It was good! you should play it! spoilers below fold.

So for the most part, I think its pretty well observed. If I wanted to sum up the setting, it's "Post-capitalist apocalypse". The bad thing has already happened. Everyone's in prison. The wheels on the bus had long ago fallen off, and as a rule those in power are doomed to ignore it, like a weird wrinkly dark souls boss.

But this poses problems when the Mr. Union Guy comes in and start quoting entire passages from Capital vol 1 about the primacy of labor, the importance of labor-time, and all. The point of Marx is describing the mechanics of capitalism, and the world as presented is definitely not that. Every single person in the town is owned by the One Company. You buy gas at a fluctuating rate, but it's only from the company, and the only use of it is to do your job at the company. The actual act of buying the gas is just some ossified ritual. There are no market forces at play here. You are in a very direct sense a feudal peasant living in the dark ages, where the only reason the people are at the top is as a result of some vested privilege from an era long forgotten.

This would be an actually interesting place to take the story: what if, like those in power, Mr. Union is trapped into thinking the world works as it did, rather than as it is? Other characters are suspicious of him, but I kind of don't think that's the direction the story is actually going in, and he is really the only kind of salvation the game is giving you.

(no i don't think any of this stuff about the real world dw about it 🙃)
