it is really annoying to see people defaulting to police-blotter speak when, in almost all cases, "child" or "teen" would be more relevant to whatever discussion. if you wouldn't say "females" then don't say "minors".
and "puriteens" sure is letting a lot of 28-37yos off the hook
the uk equivalent seems to be "youths". whenever the police want to make people worried about kids running around existing over here they talk all about "youths"
I imagine it's very puzzling, if you're one of those people who can't reliably distinguish between Australian and British accents, to determine whether a particular newsreader is attributing society's ills to "youts" (youths) or "utes" (coupe utility vehicles & pickup trucks)
