I say this as a supporting argument to your post's thesis: every time people talk about how nobody wants to talk on the phone theeeeese days I think back to my parents getting in on answering machine tech so they could stand next to it as a caller left a message in real time, listening to it being one-sidedly speakerphoned out loud, all so they could decide whether to call this person back later, much later, or never. They would be there, right by the phone, with full knowledge of who was calling, and still refused to pick up because they didn't feel like it. Anyways they were geniuses and I wish we still had landlines so I could do this.
