i agree, laser printers ftw! personally i’ve been using this Xerox WorkCentre 3045B laser printer for most of my conscious life, it just. works. sure, it’s like 12 years old at this point. but it prints and scans and copies! last time i replaced the toner was pre-covid i think, and the last time i got a “low toner” notification was almost a year ago, it still prints in pure black just fine.
as with all magic tech, i do need to make a little ritual for it to work, that is sticking my finger in the paper slot and flicking the thing that drives the paper into the printer a few times, or else it refuses to do so.
even the screen is now non-functional (because somebody didn’t properly dry a towel when doing dust-cleaning and water got in and killed the small lcd screen), but hey, i remember what buttons to press by memory because it’s actually goddamn simple.
printers don’t have to be shit or cursed or greedy. just get an old printer — it’ll work fine. and if you need a new printer:
