@TuxedoDragon asked:

i'm back! >:3
how about number 4 for the ask game?

From the Otherkin ask game:

4 - What has been your experience with the wider community?

Generally quite positive! I seem to have a lot of friends who are either aware of otherkin folks, are otherkin themselves, or are at least open-minded about alterhuman identities. I've yet to really encounter any sour points of note, which is a good thing. It also helps that the otherkin community is closely related to, but separate from, the furry community, which is where I initially encountered the otherkin community.

Thanks again Tux!

Let's ask 6. Actually writing a bit about this right now and having another point of view about them is always good!

From the Otherkin ask game:

6 - Do you feel any phantom/astral sensations? Explain

What is a shift?

A shift is a temporary, often sensorily transformative experience that one attributes to their alterhuman or non-human identity. Not all alterhuman individuals experience shifts, but many do. One who experiences a shift is called a "shifter". There are a few types of "shifts" one can experience:

  • Phantom shift – sensing the presence of a supernumerary phantom limb or body part of a non-human entity. Feeling the presence of a pair of angelic wings on your back is one example.

  • Mental shift – a change in an individual's state of consciousness and/or way of thinking to that which is closer to their non-human identity. Letting your mind calm and drift into a more animalistic state, like that of a dog, is one example.

  • Dream shift – a transformative experience where, while asleep and dreaming, one takes on aspects of or is transformed into a non-human entity. Having a lucid (or non-lucid) dream of yourself as a horse galloping with other wild horses on the Eurasian steppe is one example.

I actually picked up these definitions from an otherkin poll a while back and found them to be pretty useful in describing what a "shift" is exactly. I put it in my own words of course.

From the Otherkin ask game:

5 - If you could choose your identity, would you still be you? Who would you be?

Whether this is an otherkin-specific topic or about my overall identity, I honestly wouldn't change a thing. I'm content being who I am. Though I sometimes long to be a feline, know I can't be in a literal physical sense. I'm a human whether I like it or not.

However, I do wonder how different things would be as a feline. Whether that would entail being feral, anthro, or taur I don't know. What I do know is that in doing so I would give up a large part of my humanity, which I would be content with.

Being an anthro feline would strike a good balance and feel the most natural to me, but it would be hard not also having the opportunity to be a taur or feral at least once in a while. So if I could, I would keep my options open and default to an anthro feline, preferably a snow leopard.
