also, I just wanna say that imo baldur's gate 1 still holds up. not a perfect game, got a ton of jank, but a lot of that jank begets creativity in playstyles. also the modding community is as strong as it ever was, and there are a few mods that pretty thoroughly de-jank the game. for example, this run is using SCS (Sword Coast Stratagems), which is a comprehensive AI overhaul as well as an overhaul of key encounters, allowing for things like enemy mages instantaneously buffing themselves at the start of battle, enemy units not repeating something that was ineffectual once already, and just smarter enemies in general.
