an incredibly untapped retro throwback aesthetic is the early redbook audio soundtrack (sega cd, playstation) where every time music changes, it’s sudden & has a brief pause while it seeks to the next track, often with a subtle build to the start because you can do that with pre-recorded music now. for bonus aesthetic points, add in a little ambience of a cd rom drive spinning up any time it changes tracks.
