holy crap that's so beautiful! the textures are amazing, even in a digital version
i like your choice of colors, and i feel like there's a lot of emotions behind that jarring, jagged edge. overall: i like it!
not a video tutorial, but the things I pay attention to with abstracts are
β’ how am I moving and manipulating the paint? (squeejees, silicone spatulas, or shoppers club cards are good for getting a more smooth texture; pay mind to the direction and pressure of your brushstrokes and use them to reinforce contours)
β’ how translucent is the paint?
(many brands increase their opacity by adding chalk or other binders that make the end result look cloudy or otherwise stagnant; golden liquid acrylics work decent for a more translucent application, which lets you layer in texture/undercolors/etc better. with spray paint, molotow and montana gold cans have an excellent range of translucents to work with)
β’ how much texture should I be adding?
(use sand or dirt; alternatively, use jagged applicators - butter knives, forks, metal. Or if you have time to let things dry, layers and layers of paint [or moving partially-dried paint, for folding, egg-like textures] will also get you a texture)
β’ what is the final product, and how will this translate?
(flourescent pigments aren't going to translate to digital media in the same way that a color that is 100% inside the digitally-visible spectrum will; likewise, a photo of heavy texture work is going to keep/capture the lighting of the photo, even if thats not what the work always looks like.)
Looks great so far, eager to see future work! Also happy to answer questions, if you want to ask.
thanks so much, this is all really helpful! I do have some sponges and I'm looking forward to using them next time.
Nice texture, I bet it's nice to see the play of light on it.
