yeah but programming that was a lot harder than just scraping everyone else's work, dumping it into a markov chain, and declaring that your new robot god

had to secure the cooperation of someone who actually knows how to play chess, for one

We had the word "AI" but then marketing people started using it to describe neural network technology from the 90s so we had to come up with a new word, "AGI", to describe "okay, AI, but for real" but now the marketing people are showing signs they intend to use "AGI" to describe the same neural network technology from the 90s so soon we're going to have to come up with a new term for "AGI, but for real", like "AGGI",

The problem is how easy it is to fool people into thinking there is actually something intelligent happening. This sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic to the layperson. You have to tell them to look at the chatbot output again and think about it as if it's a ridiculously powerful AutoComplete for them to start to understand what's actually going on.

So the little crypto NFT AI hype squad on Twitter has an alarmingly nonzero chance of doing harm by convincing people with no tech background to trust this.
