sodium bicarbonate is useful as an antacid and has anti-inflammatory properties. you can buy pills of it and just swallow them. you can buy it as a name-brand product called alka-seltzer. you shouldn't guzzle a bottle of the stuff, but people do literally eat baking soda all the time.

IF you dissolve bicarbonate in a glass of water and drink it, it will give you burps because you're basically doing the "vinegar and baking soda volcano" from elementary school in your stomach. That might be what you want though.
