Being since I'm an id tech fan, I'm aware of several blogs out there that gush over the beauty of id software code and i admit i don't know enough about coding to know what "beautiful code" is other than to just take other peoples' word for it, but it makes sense that in the context of trying to make something run at playable framerates on single core, single threaded machines, i would expect some wizardry is necessary to take place
but then you get stuff like the fast inverse square root, which is hilarious, like actual wizard shit. is that beautiful code? maintainable? understandable? gets the job done? who knows. i draw and rant about stuff that's not code.
