In their latest automotive industry victory, the UAW has successfully averted a strike at Daimler Truck—in the process securing "major economic gains" for workers at the company without making any concessions. Specifically they're touting "raises of more than 25% (across 4 years, with a year 1 raise of 16%), the end of wage tiers, and the introduction profit-sharing and Cost-of-Living (COLA) for the first time since Daimler workers first organized with the UAW". The new contract, if ratified, will cover 7,300 workers at the company.
UAW had been threatening to shut down several Daimler plants today otherwise; they've also filed several unfair labor practice charges against the company, alleging retaliation against union activities, interference with workers' rights, discrimination against members of the union at Daimler, and failure to bargain in good faith. Presumably at least one of these charges will continue to be litigated by UAW, regardless of if the contract is ratified by membership.
